35 Things I Want To Do in Japan

Japan is the top destination that I would like to visit in the future. It is one of the most busiest countries in the world filled with shopping, eating, and amazing sceneries. There are a ton of cities in Japan including Tokyo, Kyoto, Yokohama, Osaka, Hiroshima, and many more. If you would like to discover what is on my to-do list for Japan, then keep on reading.

1) Walk across the Shibuya Crossing

This is a popular intersection where 3,000+ people cross everyday. Many tourists like to take photos in the middle of the chaos. That would probably be me!

2) Visit the Gudetama Cafe in Osaka

Japan has multiple themed cafes, one of them being Gudetama; a cute lazy egg character. There are an abundance of photo opportunities in this cafe and dishes with Gudetama’s face.

3) Stay in a capsule hotel called “Nine Hours”

A capsule hotel is a hotel where visitors can sleep in an individual little room. However, this is not recommended for those who are claustrophobic.

4) Explore Arashiyama Bamboo Grove in Kyoto

It would be a fascinating experience to walk through the bamboo grove and enjoy the scenery.

5) Try a drink from a vending machine

In the busy cities of Japan, there are several vending machines where people can buy unique drinks and snacks.

6) Go to Tokyo Disneysea

It would be fun to visit this theme park because it is similar to Disneyland, but with a twist! Plus, I am a huge Disney fan. There are different attractions here such as Raging Spirits and Aquatopia.

7) Visit the Ghibli Museum

I enjoy watching Studio Ghibli films, so I would love to explore this museum. My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away are two of the most popular anime films created by Studio Ghibli.

8) Taste Japanese street food

I really want to taste unique street food from Japan. Yakitori, Taiyaki, and crepes are a few street food that I would like to try when I visit.

9) Take a Japanese cooking class

I never have taken a cooking class before, but it would be a learning experience. The classes they offer teach about food preparation, ingredients, and the history of the dishes. I would love to learn the techniques to making sushi.

10) Ride the Ferris wheel, Daikanransha

Daikanransha is a gigantic colorful Ferris wheel located in Palette Town, Odaiba. The view at night from the top the Ferris wheel is breathtaking.

11) Take photos in a Purikura

Purikura is a Japanese photo booth, where people can take group pictures. The photo booth allows people to edit the photos with animated eyes, filters, and cute themes.

12) Visit the Hedgehog Cafe in Tokyo

This cafe allows locals and visitors to spend time with hedgehogs. They provide specific rules and regulations to ensure the safety of the animals.

13) Eat sushi from a conveyor belt at Genki Sushi

With the newer technology, there are multiple ways that food can be served to customers in Japan. One of those ways are through conveyor belts.

14) Visit Ueno Park

Ueno Park is large park where people can view cherry blossom trees, temples, shrines, and a zoo. It is a calm location where people can take a break.

15) Eat eight scoops of ice cream from Daily Chiko

The ice cream parlor that sells this tall ice cream cone is called “Daily Chiko,” located in Nagano Broadway. The eight flavors include strawberry, coffee, milk, chocolate, matcha, banana, grape, and ramune soda. Most likely will share this sweet treat with my sister and mother.

16) Buy Japanese stationery and pens

Japan has cute stationery and good quality art supplies. I would like to buy some to use for school and give to friends.

17) Buy Japanese makeup

I do not consider myself a beauty guru, but it would be interesting to test out a few Japanese beauty products such as Japanese lip tints and glossy eyeshadows.

18) Try different KitKat flavors

Japan has a variety of KitKat flavors including flavors I have never heard before. They probably have any flavor that you can think of. Some flavors that I want to taste are sweet pudding, royal milk tea, and Shinshu apple.

19) Visit Sensoji Temple

The Sensoji Temple is a Buddhist temple located in Asakusa. It is the oldest temple in Tokyo and has a huge significance in Japanese history.

20) Make my own cup noodles at CUPNOODLES Museum in Yokohama.

The CUPNOODLES Museum has many exhibitions such as the factory where you make your own cup noodles, park, and history cube.

21) Ride on public transportation

Many people living in Japan use public transit to get from one place to another. I would like to experience riding on a subway and rickshaw. A rickshaw is a two-wheeled vehicle maneuvered by a person.

22) Visit Sanrio Puroland

Sanrio Puroland is a theme park filled with kawaii characters such as Hello Kitty. The theme park offers meet and greets with characters and shows for entertainment.

23) Window shop at Ginza

Ginza is a shopping district with fancy high end stores and boutiques.

24) Experience an Onsen bath

An Onsen is a Japanese hot spring. There are etiquettes to learn before going in an Onsen. For example, if you have tattoos you are not allowed to enter an Onsen for cultural purposes.

25) Admire Mount Fuji

Mount Fuji is a tall volcano located in Honshu which represents Japan.

26) Eat ramen in an individual booth at Ichiran Shibuya

Ichiran Shibuya is a restaurant where people can order through a ticket vending machine. After ordering, customers sit in their own individual booths and eat delicious ramen.

27) Visit the Nezu Shrine

The Nezu Shrine is a popular shrine surround by beautiful greenery and a red tunnel.

28) Explore Omoide Yokocho, “Piss Alley”

Omoide Yokocho is a narrow alley filled with tiny restaurants and bars. Fun fact: it is called “Piss Alley” because there are only a few public restrooms.

29) Visit Harajuku

Harajuku is a colorful district with vintage clothing shops, cosplay shops, and art.

30) Go-Karting in Tokyo

If you are familiar with the Mario Kart game, this is basically the game but in real life. It would a fun experience to ride around the city in a go-kart.

31) Take photos at Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine

The Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine is a shrine located in Kyoto. This shrine has red Torii gates which is similar to the tunnel at Nezu shrine.

32) Go to a Japanese Festival

There are many festivals in Japan such as the Mitama Matsuri and Sumida River Fireworks Festival. These festivals are an amazing way to immerse in Japanese culture and traditions.

33) See the night view of Tokyo at Skytree

Skytree is a tall skyscraper where you can see the city lights and whole landscape view of Tokyo.

34) Take a tour at Yasuhito Teshima’s Farm

Yasuhito Teshima Farm is well-known for its rare white strawberry also known as “white jewel.” This rare fruit is claimed to be bigger and sweeter compared to a normal red strawberry.

35) Take in the beauty of Wisteria Tunnels at Kawachi Fuji Gardens.

This beautiful scenery is located in Kitakyushu. The Wisteria Tunnels is a walkway where you can see the purple, white and pink flowers. It is recommended to visit during April-May when the flowers bloom.
