During the summer of 2019, I visited the beautiful island of Oahu, Hawaii with my family. I was excited to soak up the sun and explore the various sceneries the island had to offer. My family and I were waiting for this moment to spend some quality time together without having to worry about our other responsibilities.
On the first day of our vacation, we decided to walk through the Waikiki strip and swim at Waikiki beach. This area was filled with many tourists, tour guides, street performers, and locals carrying surfboards on their heads. I was so amazed by the view. I felt the positivity of everyone in my surroundings. The Waikiki strip was filled with various souvenir shops and fancy boutiques.
After a few hours, we crossed the street to get on the side of Waikiki beach. Unlike the other beaches at California, the beaches here in Hawaii had crystal clear water and very few rocks and seaweed. The Waikiki beach was the perfect place to visit with family and friends. We also noticed that by looking closely in the water, you will find little schools of fish camouflaging with the tan sand.
The sun was starting to set and we were feeling a bit hungry. So, we decided to go back to the motel and get ready to eat. Rainbow’s Drive In was the place where we wanted to have dinner. It was a famous local drive-in restaurant, where you can eat traditional Hawaiian food. For example, items on the menu included Loco Moco, Shoyu Chicken, Hamburger Steak, Beef BBQ plate, and many more delicious meals!
My family and I stayed in Hawaii for a week, but it felt like three days because of the abundance of activities we have accomplished. Although I enjoyed sightseeing breathtaking views, laying at the beach, and trying new food; what I missed most about our trip was the bonding that I had with my mother and sister.
I missed spending quality time with them because it is something that we don’t do on a day to day basis. Back in California, we are continuously working and rushing to finish our errands. Memorable trips like these remind me to spend time with my loved ones and appreciate their presence.
See you next time,
Eryka
