6) Spend money only on things that you need.

While traveling, the expenses can get a bit out of hand. That is why it is important to control your expenses. We sometimes might be too caught up in the moment and not realize that we are buying things that will collect dust on our shelf. This connects to buying food on vacation. At lunch or dinner, make sure to eat the right amount of food that won’t be wasted.

7) Spend less money on souvenirs.

Adding on to Tip #6, spending less money on souvenirs will help you save a ton of money. I know that it might be nice to have a cute little key chain or magnet to take back home, but you can save memories by taking videos and photos instead.

8) Bring snacks and a reusable water bottle during the day.

This will eliminate your hunger and thirst throughout the day. You can spend more of your money on bigger meals such as lunch or dinner, instead of water bottles and snacks.

9) Look for free activities to do around the city.

There are plenty of activities that you can do for free. For example, walk around street fairs, go to the park, visit the beach, and stop by local farmers market and see what they have.

10) Walk or ride on public transportation.

By walking and/or riding on public transportation, you get to experience what it is like to be living as a local in that city. You save more money by not having to pay for a car rental or gas. Plus, you help out the environment!

11) Look for discounts.

This can include student discounts, family deals, military discounts, and many more! Look and ask for more information about these discounts on your vacation.

You will commonly find brochures at airports and hotels. Brochures provide lots of information about popular sites and restaurants. Be sure to check out the brochures for more activities to do and for coupons.

13) Look for free Wi-Fi.

Some people spend money for Wi-Fi on their trips, when instead they can look for free Wi-Fi. However, this might be unsafe because of scammers using Wi-Fi. Or better yet, avoid using devices on trips unless used for pictures and video purposes.

14) Bargain.

It is common to bargain in some countries such as Asia and Europe. You can try negotiating prices to reduce the cost of goods and services. You can try to observe and ask locals for ways to bargain with merchants.

If you are extremely determined to travel, you can save small portions of your weekly or monthly paychecks for traveling expenses. When the time comes, you will notice how much money you have accumulated over time and be able to travel.
